AILA AWARD “PROGETTO DONNA” 2002 June 26, 2002 Senate of the Republic Rome Andrea Monorchio, State Accountant General for his studies on the aging of the population, the creative Oliviero Toscani, because he 'photographed' the suffering of osteoporosis, the actress Manuela Arcuri, testimonial of the AILA campaign against anorexia, the Honorable Irene Pivetti, for her political commitment to women, the psychologist Maria Rita Parsi, for her publications in defense of mothers and children. And then Gaetano Arconti, president of the BNC Foundation, the newspaper “Io Donna”, Daniela Rosati, author and host of “Tutto benessere”, RAI 1, Silvia Migliaccio, university researcher. These are the winners of the “Progetto Donna” Award, announced by the AILA Foundation for the fight against arthrosis and osteoporosis, sponsored by the Ministry of Health, the Senate of the Republic, the Senate Health Commission and the City Council of Rome. “With this Award, the AILA Foundation – states the president, Prof. Francesco Bove – wants to induce the authorities, health and research organizations, institutions and citizens to encourage all women to worry more about their health and well-being and to implement conscious prevention. Women, in fact, are still threatened by many diseases with a greater incidence than men”. With the aim of defeating two chronic diseases, typical of modern society, which make women more fragile and defenseless, AILA has published innovative scientific research on arthrosis and osteoporosis, not failing to underline the socio-economic aspects and human costs for citizens and for the community of these pathologies that cause pain, disability, deformity, fractures. In fact, there are 5 million people in Italy affected by osteoporosis, it is estimated that over 10 million are at risk. Studies have particularly focused on the harmful lifestyles that lead to the disease, on the measures to be taken to prevent it and on how to treat it. On June 26, the AILA Foundation will therefore honour some eminent figures who have worked to improve the status of the female universe in all fields. Because if women live longer, it is also essential for AILA to guarantee a high standard of quality of life for workers, mothers, wives, and those responsible for caring for the elderly.
